I'm sure many are asking, "Why did you start kissimmeecodeenforcementharassment.com?" The answer is simple, a broken promise.
This all started on August 5th, 2009. First there was a visit to City Hall to complain about the behavior of one of the city's code enforcement officers. This was followed by a written complaint on August 6, 2009. My letter of complaint triggered an investigation by the city. The investigation was completed on September 9, 2009. As a result of this investigation the offending code enforcement officer was to apologize in writing to both my secretary and myself.
Fast forward almost a year.
No apologies were ever received; so on July 19, 2010 I sent another letter to the city inquiring where my apology letter was. The email response I received was that the investigation had an error in it, and that my secretary was due an apology, not me. Go figure.
Following are all of the correspondences concerning this, in my opinion, abuse of power. As you read the following documents, you'll get a chance to see what I believe is a local government that bullies it's citizens. Once I filed my complaint, I really thought I would get a fair hearing. I thought wrong. The city investigating a complaint on one of it's own is like letting the fox guard the hen house.
I'm not perfect by any means, but our government representatives and employees aren't either. I did nothing to warrant the treatment my organization received, and if I had simply received the apology I thought I was due, this would have all been forgotten.
Email your questions or comments to me at kissimmeecodeenforcement@gmail.com. I would love to hear from anyone who has had similar experiences or from those who are trying to avoid this circumstance in which I find myself.
